I had to take my two year old daughter for allergy testing today. I had read up about it online and was worried about how she would react to it. I had myself mentally prepared for temper tantrums. Turned out it all that worrying was wasted energy. They have come a long way with allergy testing on toddlers. Georgie was stuck with 32 needles and didn’t even as much as wimper. I held her in my lap and she watched a DVD on the big screen TV over my shoulder. The tests can most descriptively be described as a hair brush. Each of these hair brush looking things holds 8 needles and they put two on their back at the same time. It took the nurse under a minute to administer the tests and then we waited for 15 minutes to see what flared up.

We now know that Georgie has allergies to eggs, nuts and dairy dust mites and birch. Not major allergies but enough of an allergy that the combination of eggs, nuts and dairy could be whats causing her eczema. I’m going to order a medic alert bracelet from Jewel Basket for days when she’s at the gym. Her eczema has pretty much taken over her body from the neck down and we really want to get it under control from a comfort standpoint for her and also because summer is quickly approaching.

I was a very proud mom today, Georgie was talkative, funny and a perfect little angel. She didn’t whine, she didn’t cry, she didn’t do any of the things I expected. The Dr gave her his stethoscope to play with and she spent a good 15 minutes trying to find Daisy Duck and Dora’s heartbeats. If you have to go through allergy testing with a toddler call ahead first and ask how they administer the test, there are some that still do it the old fashioned way, 32 needles individually.
