Trying to get my daughters eczema under control has been a constant battle for us since she was 4 months old. Around the age of two it got worse and was getting progressively worse up until two days ago. While most parents would stress over finding out their child was allergic to dairy, eggs and nuts to us it was a relief. We were hopeful that we finally had a cure for her eczema in sight. Yesterday it was slightly better and last night we choose to not use the steroid cream that we have religiously been painting her up with every night. This morning her skin is smooth and milky white. We were hopeful that changing her diet would make a difference but we never expected it to happen so fast.
It is hard removing some of her favorite foods from her diet. She loves pasta, cookies and some of her favorite breakfast cereals contain traces of eggs, nuts and milk. We are fortunate that she loves veggies and have been able to feed her salad, apples, Cheerios, rice and some of the Gerber toddler snacks. We’re off to a good start and I’m looking at what else I can expand her diet with. Right now we are relieved and are looking forward to summer more. Bring on those cute sundresses!
If your toddler has had problems with eczema and nothing has been helping get it under control I highly recommend having allergy testing done. The stress of her eczema was far worse than having the testing done.
I’m happy that she feels better. It’s sad when you have to remove some favorite food or snack.
But check for no egg cookie recipe. I remember watching a mom of an allergic boy in Martha Stewart’s show, she created recipes that don’t require egg and/or milk. She used vinegar instead, and it tasted good (as they said). I can’t remember her name, but maybe you can find her on the internet. Good luck.
