I was born in the US and moved to Australia when I was 23. In the ten years that I was there I did a lot of growing up. My husband says I’m more Aussie than I am American and he’s right. The majority of the experiences that shaped me into who I am today took place in Australia. When I moved down there I was still a kid and ten years later I left an Australian Citizen and somewhat an adult.
I read the Australian news most days and try to keep up to date with what’s going on. We have no future plans to go back but we still have family and friends there. I was looking at the Rugby League ladder this morning and was happy to see that the Bronco’s are so far undefeated. I clicked on a news story and screamed out to my husband. Wayne Bennett is coaching the Dragons now? When did that happen? Wayne Bennett coached the Bronco’s the entire time I was in Australia. I’m feeling very unAustralian now. I love Australia and part of me would love to live there again but I know that my family is better off in the US. Over there we lived to work and never would have had the time we have here to spend as a family. The only city we could really live in there was Sydney and the cost of living was so high that we would both be working full time just to survive.
Right now I could really go for watching a game of League, a meat pie and a Coopers. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oy, Oy, Oy!!
Oooh! Do you have that cute aussie accent?!
